Product Description
George Allan, as well as being one of the finest creators of brass band contest marches of his generation, was also a long standing member of Shildon Railway Institute up until his death in 1930.
Despite being a humble blacksmith and wagon painter at the Shildon Works for most of his adult life, George found time to create well over 150 pieces of band music in his lifetime. The best of these still win prizes for the bands playing them at contests around the world today and are considered to be among the best loved pieces from that era.
This CD is a collection of some of his best regarded marches recorded by four fine brass bands from our region - the Barnard Castle Band, Ever Ready Band, Langbaurgh Brass and Ferryhill Town Band.
The marches include his great contest marches, Knight Templar, The Wizard, Raby and many more besides.
Every copy of the CD purchased helps George's beloved Institute to keep going.
