In association with Lonely Tower Film & Media, please join us at the Railway Institute for a very special screening of the documentary Hollowed Ground: the People of the Durham Coalfield - featuring a talk and Q&A with the film makers.

What is identity? Where does it come from?

In the 19th Century, County Durham in North East England saw its population increase dramatically, as mine workers and their families moved into the area in search of work.

Built on coal, these pit towns and villages forged their own unique identity.

Interwoven in the fabric of this is community, and an unwavering resilience in the face of adversity.

The story of the people of the Durham Coalfield is one of unyielding determination and perseverance to build a better future.

Doors open at 12:30pm. Film screening starts at 1.00pm.
